Meet Rick

Rick Lipof is a proven leader, who will deliver for Newton and Brookline.

Through his many years as a Newton small business owner, public schools parent, and City Councilor, Rick has developed the relevant experience, understanding, and visionary leadership that Newton and Brookline deserve in the State House. Rick knows that now more than ever, we need leaders who will work collaboratively to get things done and deliver impactful policy solutions to our greatest challenges, while bringing tangible resources to our communities.

Rick grew up in Newton—the son of an Alderman and a Rabbi— and has committed a lifetime of public service in Newton.  His work on the Board of Alderman and now City Council are unparalleled in this election. He is serving in his 23rd year on the Council and has served in leadership as Vice President for four years.  He has also served as Chair of the Land Use Committee, Public Safety & Transportation Committee and Real Property Re-Use. An active member in the community, Rick has served on other boards, including the Newton Election Commission, The Angino/Newton Farm Commission, and as a member of the executive Board at Temple Beth Avodah.

As City Councilor At-Large, Rick has played a critical role in some of Newton’s most important policy advancements, making Newton more environmentally sustainable, creating the Traffic Council to address transportation issues, protecting Webster Woods, increasing funding for programming for the Newton Public Schools, and advancing public private partnerships, including the creative development partnership that creating housing while saving 20 Acres for conservation at Kessler Woods.

For the past 33 years, Rick has owned a real estate appraisal and consulting business in Newton and understands the importance of supporting our local businesses and embracing our local economic engine.

At a time when political divisiveness has impacted local politics, Rick knows that we need elected leaders who will listen to differing opinions, work collaboratively with residents, and put politics aside to get the job done.

Rick and his wife, Janice, are the proud parents of two adult daughters, Sydney and Jennifer (and their Cavapoo, Cody). He is a graduate of the Spaulding School, Meadowbrook Junior High School, Newton South High School (1983), and the University of Wisconsin.
